The Difference Of U Part Wigs, HD Lace Wigs And 4×4 Lace Wigs | Elemo Hair

The Difference Of U Part Wigs, HD Lace Wigs And 4×4 Lace Wigs | Elemo Hair

There are numerous videos on social media of women with long, thick, natural-looking locks. You may be surprised to learn that even the most natural-looking head of hair may turn out to be extensions, such as sew-ins, or even wigs.

Nowadays, wearing a wig has become so commonplace. As wigs make your life so much more convenient and easy, they are one of the best investments you can make. There is, however, so much choice available regarding the types of wigs, that it can be tricky to figure out what may suit your needs the most. Today we want to break everything down for you. So what are these products and what are the differences between them?

WHAT IS A U-PART WIG?
There is a U-shaped opening in the top of these wigs which essentially makes them a modified half wig.

The U shape opening helps give a very natural part and hairline look because you leave out a little bit of your own hair at the opening that you use to blend with the wig hair. For this reason, no gels or glues are required and no lace is included with the wig.

And because your own hairline and part is exposed, it looks the most natural as long as you get the blend between your own hair and the wig hair right. This type of wig does not require a stocking cap, so U-shaped wigs are easy to wear every day and they are also very easy to install and remove.

WHAT IS A HD LACE WIG?
HD is short for high definition. Previously called Swiss lace, HD lace is a lace material that is virtually invisible when applied to the scalp. By doing so, the wig wearer will be able to have an exposed hairline that looks very natural and renders the lace along the hairline undetectable.
In comparison with a normal transparent lace, HD lace is thinner, more delicate, and of course also transparent. The transparent lace can melt into any skin tone after hair knots have been bleached and the wig is glued down to the hairline.
As you may have gathered, the HD refers to the type of lace used and not so much the style of the wig it is used to create. For this reason, you will find that HD lace wigs are more expensive than other lace part wigs.

WHAT IS A 4×4 LACE WIG?
4×4 lace wigs use a closure piece that is usually a 4×4-inch patch in size to close a wig so that it can be worn without leaving out any of your hair. The rest of the wig is usually machine-made.

It is less versatile in terms of styling options but on the other hand, it is less expensive than other options and is more wallet-friendly. 4×4 lace wigs are ideal for beginners and those who are budget conscious.

Again, like with lace part wigs, it allows you to wear a beautiful style while keeping all your own hair protected from styling and heat damage.

WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
There are pros and cons to each of the extension techniques aforementioned which depending on the person. 4×4 lace wigs are of course the cheapest of the lace options and they are also quite easy to figure out and master which makes them beginner-friendly.

As your confidence grows you may eventually want to try a HD lace wig for an even more natural look while keeping your hair protected.

Still, it would be remiss to dismiss the humble U-part wig. This is of course the most beginner-friendly wig of them all as it is simple and self-explanatory to apply with no glue or special skills required.
If you don’t mind having a little of your own hair out, the fact that your own hairline and parting is exposed makes it the most natural-looking option for wearing a wig.
